Purpose

This article overviews Machine Tax - how to turn it on for the VMS, what it does, and how it's used.
 

Process

Machine Tax is a company-wide feature toggle found at Financial → Financial Settings → Machine Tax in Company Settings.
 

What it Does

When Machine Tax is turned ON, it unlocks a Machine Tax Percent field on each individual machine's edit page. 
This field (tax percent on the machines table) allows for the assignment of a fixed tax percentage override to a specific machine.

The tooltip on that field reads: "Enter a number to override product tax for this machine when running commissions."
 

How it's Used

The tax percent value on a machine overrides the normal product-level tax rate when calculating commissions.
When running commissions, it will aggregates sales by machine and applies the appropriate tax rate - using the machine's own tax percent if one is set.

Without this setting enabled, the machine-level tax percent field is not used and hidden in the UI.
