Purpose
The purpose of this article is to outline how vending devices using PayPlus (U1F, U1B) and PicoVend are changing how prices are displayed and charged for cash and card payments. This is to comply with Visa and Mastercard rules and federal law.
Overview
What Users Do
- Enter product prices into the vending system as the standard (card) price.
- Set a cash discount amount if offering a lower price for cash payments by physically displaying on vending items and entering discount into AVLive
What Users See
- The price shown on the machine is the standard (card) price.
- If a cash discount is offered, the machine will show both the standard price and the discounted cash price.
- No additional fees are added at checkout for card payments.
- Stickers or notices on the machine will state: “Standard price is for card; cash discount available.”
Process
Turn Cash Discount On or Off and Set Discount Type
At the Company Level
- Go to AV Live > Company > Settings tab.
- Find the new setting labeled Cash Discount Type above the Cash Discount field.
- Click the dropdown and select either:
- FLAT RATE (for a dollar amount, e.g., $0.05)
- PERCENTAGE (for a percentage, e.g., 5%)
- If FLAT RATE is selected, enter the cash discount as a dollar amount.
- If PERCENTAGE is selected, enter the cash discount as a percentage.
- A message will appear: “Percentage cash discount is only supported on PayPlus and PicoVend 2026.2 and later. If Percentage is selected and the linked device is not at least this version, the cash discount will be $0.00.”
- A message will appear: “Percentage cash discount is only supported on PayPlus and PicoVend 2026.2 and later. If Percentage is selected and the linked device is not at least this version, the cash discount will be $0.00.”
- To turn OFF the cash discount, set the discount amount to zero or leave it blank.
- Click Save to apply changes.
At the Machine Level
- Go to AV Live > Machine > Settings tab.
