ADM - Create and Link Modifiers
Updated

Purpose

This guide will walk you through how to create modifiers and attach them to products. A modifier will allow you to add any additional items to a product, which allows consumers to customize their orders.

An example of a modifier would be toppings. The consumer would see an option such as "Choose a topping," and they would be able to select or deselect toppings such as ketchup, mustard, pickles, etc.

Modifiers are attached to Products. To learn more about products, please see the article ADM - Add, Edit, or Extend a Product

Creating a Modifier

In order to configure a modifier, both a modifier tab and a modifier need to be created in ADM. Once those are created, the modifier and modifier tab can be linked together, and then linked to a product.

  • Modifier Tab: This contains individual modifiers under one category. You can choose to have multiple modifiers under one tab, or just a single modifier. The modifier tabs will always be needed as a place for the individual modifiers. The tabs are what you will link to your products.

  • Modifiers: These are the actual customizations you can start creating for your products.  For example, you can have a modifier that says "Choose a Topping," and in that modifier can be a list of all the toppings a customer can choose to add to their order.

  3. The Modifier Create page will display. The fields may change depending on the Type of modifier chosen, so we will set this field first. Choose the Type - the options are Values, Products, and Free Text. Each Type and its associated fields are explained in the subsections below.

Values Modifier

This type will allow you to add custom modifiers, and assign a dollar value to each. The Values type modifier adjusts prices to be inline with the meal selection on the ReadyTouch display.

A good example of a Value Modifier would be the toppings available for a burger. You can set lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, etc. as no-cost options, as well as additionally priced toppings like a pretzel bun for an extra $1. The burger is $3 with a normal bread bun, and $4 with the pretzel bun. If the customer removes the burger from the order, the pretzel bun is also removed.

  1. Name (required) - the name of the modifier. Examples: "Toppings," "Bread Options," etc.

  2. Instructions (optional) - the instructions your consumers will see when ordering. Examples: "Choose your Toppings," "Select your protein options below", etc.

  3. Forced checkbox - if the option must be chosen as part of the order, then check Forced, so the consumer will not be able to skip making a selection. An example of a forced modifier could be the size of a drink, or how well-done a steak should be cooked.

  4. Max Selections - the maximum amount of selections the consumer can choose. If you have 10 different options and the maximum selection is set to five, then the customer will only be able to choose up to five of those options.

  5. Default - modifier will be added automatically, but the consumer can choose to remove it. For example,- a sandwich could come with pickles by default, but the consumer can choose to have them removed.

  6. In the Text field to the right of the Default field, type the name of the item. Keeping with the toppings example, here are a few examples you can start typing into the fields - Pickles, Olives, Peppers, Mushrooms, etc. These are going to be everything you will want your consumers to be able to choose when adding to their order. You can add as many options as desired by selecting the Add button.

  7. Dollar amount (optional) - can be assigned to each item as needed. Keep the dollar fields blank if there are no additional charges for the options.

  8. Calories (optional) - If you have listed the number of calories for the item itself, the number of calories for the item and the modifier will be added together when the customer chooses that modifier. For more information, see ADM DNA (Dietary Nutrition Analysis)

  9. Once the modifier and modifier tab have been created, you will need to link it to a modifier tab

Values Modifier Example

The Values type modifier adjusts prices to be inline with the meal selection on the ReadyTouch display.

Products Modifier

This modifier will link back to your product database and allow you to choose an item from the Global Products list to be a part of a modifier. The "Products" modifier type displays an additional line in the shopping cart, the price of which is the same as the Global Product version.

A good example of this could be a side menu item, such as chips or fries, that is added on to an order with the customer's burger. These sides have separate prices than the main dish, and will be listed separately on the customer's receipt. If the customer removes the burger from their order, the side they chose will still stay on the order.

  1. Name (required) - the name of the modifier. Examples: "Sides," "Desserts", etc.

  2. Instructions (optional) - the instructions your consumers will see when ordering. Examples: "Choose your Sides," "Still have room for dessert?" etc.

  3. Forced checkbox - if the option must be chosen as part of the order, then check Forced, so the consumer will not be able to skip making a selection. An example of a forced option could be that the customer must choose a side of chips or fries to complete their meal.

  4. Max Selections - the maximum amount of selections the consumer can choose. If you have 10 different options and the maximum selection is set to five, then the customer will only be able to choose up to five of those options.

  5. Products - select any product from the Global Product list. The price of the modifier is the same as the price of the item in the Global Products list. If an item is not available on this list, check your Global Products list within ADM. You can add more items by selecting the Add button.

  6. Once the modifier and modifier tab have been created, you will need to link it to a modifier tab

Free Text

The Free Text modifier is used with 365Dining only. This modifier produces a text field for the consumer to enter any other needed information upon placing an order. This text field is limited to 50 characters or fewer.

  1. The Name field is required. Type a name for the modifier. For example, you can provide a free-text field to the consumer named "Other Instructions" to modify the item for anything that might not have been listed as an option.

  2. The Instruction field is optional. Type in an instruction and your consumers will see these instructions when ordering. For example, "Type any special instructions here" could display as the Instruction and the consumer would have the free-text field to enter the special instructions in manually. Free text will be limited to 50 characters or fewer.

  3. Click Save when finished.

  4. Once the modifier and modifier tab have been created, you will need to link it to a modifier tab
