MEI Bill Acceptor - Programming/De-Programming Coupons
Updated

Introduction

The MEI bill acceptor can be programmed to accept coupon vouchers as currency. This feature can also be reversed. Complete the following steps to either program or de-program the bill acceptor for your MicroMarket.

The new NV-9 bill acceptor cannot be programmed to take coupons.

MEI Bill Validator:

Gen2, Gen 3, Gen3c, and V5 MicroMarkets

Tools:

  • Phillips-Head Screwdriver
  • Key to XP (Expansion) Unit or Back of Kiosk
  • Coupons

Programming Coupons (Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3)

  1. Open the XP unit or back of the kiosk to access the bill acceptor.

  2. Check the back of the acceptor to confirm the light code is flashing twice for "disabled from the system". If any other light code is present, clear the error following the guide under Bill Acceptor: Care & Usage.

  3. Access the kiosk settings in Valet.

  4. Test the acceptor in Valet. When it reads "Insert Bill," the light should turn solid red.

  5. Press the small blue service button TWICE (three times if two does not work) on the back of the acceptor (next to the red indicator light). The red status LED and front green arrows will blink rapidly.

  6. Insert the coupon/Avenue C bucks. The bill acceptor will eject the coupon. The red status LED will blink 10 times to indicate the coupon was accepted (this is normal).

  7. Insert the coupon again and verify that the coupon is recognized using the Valet settings.

Programming Coupons (V5)

  1. Open the XP unit or back of the kiosk to access the bill acceptor.

  2. On the bottom of the back of the bill acceptor, there should be a blue button next to an indicator light. The light should be flashing twice for “disabled from the system”. If any other light code is present, clear the error following the guide under Bill Acceptor: Care & Usage.

  3. Ask the operator to press the blue button two to three times. This should cause the front green arrows to blink rapidly.

  4. Insert the Avenue C bucks coupon. The bill acceptor will eject the coupon.  The red status light on the back should blink about 10 times to indicate that it accepted the coupon.

  5. Insert the coupon again (during test funding of an account or by testing through Setup) and verify that the coupon is recognized by the bill acceptor.

De-Programming Coupons

  3. Press the blue button two to three times. This should cause the front green arrows to blink rapidly.
