Process
Devices are typically plugged into a USB port on the Castles reader and receive power and payment message through this cable. Users of Contactless Cards (tap to pay) will be directed to tap elsewhere first, then the payment device.
The Campus setting can only use HID readers for the HID cards. The HID Reader Device Name will be “5427 CK.”
- On a U1F setup, the HID reader will need to be plugged into a USB 2 port, requiring a USB A Female to USB B Male adapter. (These can be purchased from any supplier. See image:)
- For the U1B setup, a Castles U1B USB cable (part number: 41000322. See Image:), is required. The student can swipe a card on the terminal or tap on the HID reader.
See the below images for an U1B USB cable, USB adapter, and OMNIKEY 5427CK in sequence; the housing bracket and ports; and the complete cable sequence plugged in:
When the HID reader is installed correctly, the blue half-oval light will light up. See Images of light on and off:
After installing the HID reader, please verify that it is working correctly by testing with a campus card.
- If the reader has issues powering on, or reading the campus card, try using the other USB port on the cable and ensure the connection is snug.
