Purpose

This article guides Operators through the installation of an HID Reader, namely used for Campus Cards, onto a PicoCooler Vision product.
 

Process

Tools and Equipment Needed

  • HID reader configured university RFID

    PicoCooler Vision - HID Reader
  • HID reader bracket with screws
     
  • USB C to USB A Female connector

    PicoCooler Vision - HID USB A Female to USB C Male
  • Zip Ties
     
  • Cable braces
     
  • Philips head screw driver
     

HID Reader and Bracket Installation Steps

  1. Power off cabinet.
     
  2. Remove the screw holding Pico device and optional Scanner Hood onto bracket.

  3. Push down and then out to remove the Pico device from the cooler door bracket.
     
  4. Remove all cabling: power, ethernet, communication cable, and cell antenna connector.
     
  5. Remove all three of the red circled screws from the bracket.

  6. Open the cabinet door and carefully remove the gasket from the groove of the cabinet door.

  7. Loosen the two screws now present where the gasket was located, and then the handle will easily come off.
     
  8. Once the handle has been removed the bracket can also be fully removed.
     
  9. Bundle the HID cable and zip tie it. This will allow you to easily attach the cables inside of the removed bracket.
     
  10. Place the two cable clips on the bracket and attach the HID cables to the clips.

  11. Remove the smaller side bracket.

  12. Replace the front bracket. Ensure all the cables are pulled through the bracket.
     
  13. Reinstall the bracket screws.
     
  14. Reattach the door and handle.
     
  15. Push the gasket back into the groove of the door using a dull tool or thumb.
     
  16. Plug in the cabling.

    1. Ethernet Cable into the silver port.
       
    2. Communication into the black port.
       
    3. Power into the molex connector.
       
    4. USB C to USB A Female connector into the USB C port.
       
  17. To best fit the cables back inside of the bracket, place the COM connector into the left side.

  18. Tuck the rest of the cables in the bottom of the bracket and place the Pico device back into the bracket.
     
  19. Place the HID bracket under the screw hole that holds the Pico device on the bracket, and use the self-tapping screws to attach to the cabinet bracket.

  20. Add the center screw to secure Pico to the cabinet bracket.
     
  21. Slide the HID reader into the HID bracket.
     
  22. Before reattaching the side cable cover on the door, adjust the HID cable to make sure there is a little slack.

  23. Attach side cable cover and the install is complete.
