Process
Check for SIM Card Installation
- Ensure that the SIM card was installed in the upper left slot of the terminal. The card should be oriented with the cut corner facing left and the SIM contacts facing downward.
- If the card needs to be reseated, push the card deeper into its housing and release it. You may now pull it out of the device. Reinsert by pressing the card down into the slot until there is an audible click.
DBV Teeth Installation
Your device may have come with the correct set of "teeth" preinstalled. If this is the case, you may skip these steps and move to Removing and Prepping the Bill Validator.
- At the rear of the terminal, remove the mounting screw on slot no. 2
-
From here, install one of the sets of "teeth" that would best fit your particular DBV. Note that the number stamp should be facing out when the teeth are inserted.
Some of the sets of "teeth" may include:
- C066 Coinco - U.S.
- C072 Coinco - Canada
- ME66 MEI
- ME72 - pictured below on a Conlux Dollar Bill Acceptor
- Reinstall the mounting screw to keep the teeth in place.
The teeth are now installed.
Removing and Prepping Bill Validator
- Unlock and open the electrical cabinet door for the machine. Turn the unit power off from the power box.
- Remove the bill box from the dollar bill validator (DBV)
- Remove all four of the 11/32" nuts from the mounting bracket holding the DBV
- Disconnect all cables from the DBV, such as the MDB cable and the coin mech cable. Then, remove the DBV from the unit.
- Remove the 4 screws holding the faceplate of the DBV. Then, remove the faceplate.
- If the DBV has a backplate, such as the one on the Talos MEI BV shown in the image below, remove this plate. This will make the reinstallation process easier to complete.
Antenna Assembly
- First, check for an existing antenna hole on the top of the machine. Some machine models, such as the DN5800 Refresh, will have a pre-drilled hole, which may have a bolt acting as a cover for it.
- Please note: if the pre-existing hole is too small to for the hardware to be installed, you may consider widening the hole with a step drill bit, similar to how you would create a new hole in Step 2 below.
- Please note: if the pre-existing hole is too small to for the hardware to be installed, you may consider widening the hole with a step drill bit, similar to how you would create a new hole in Step 2 below.
- If you do not see a pre-drilled hole on top of your machine, you will need to create a hole for the antenna. With a pen or other marking tool, mark the spot which is 5 inches in from the front edge and 4 inches in from the right-side edge. Use the step drill to create a half inch hole in this location.
- Unscrew the antenna nut and remove it from the antenna
- Feed all the antenna wire through the hole until the threaded base fits into the hole. The antenna should now sit flush on top of the machine.
- Inside the machine, thread the antenna cable through the metal washer. Slot in the antenna cable into the pre-cut side of the antenna nut. Tighten the antenna nut back into place on the threaded base.
Reinstall the DBV and Complete Assembly
- Collect the antenna cable, DEX cable, and MDB Cable together in one hand. Then, pass the collected cables through the upper portion of the PayPlus Omni bracket.
Inserting the cables into the bracket before attaching the bracket to the device will ensure the bracket will not be in the way when plugging in the cords, and will orient the cords correctly once installation is complete.
- With the three cords looped through the bracket, plug the cords into the device, starting with the antenna cord. Install the coax fitting of the antenna into the left coax port of the Castles CCR by tightening the bronze antenna fastener in a clockwise direction. After that, plug the DEX cable into the upper-right port, and the MDB cable into the bottom-left port.
- Install the PayPlus Omni onto the dollar bill validator (DBV). Make sure to pass the cables through the gap between the two devices. Ensure that the wires are not pinched or frayed in this process.
- Fasten the Castles CCR using the 4 mounting screws from the old faceplate. Mount the DBV and Castles CCR assembly to the service door.
- Connect the Castles power cable to the MDB power port and the DBV cable. Connect the coin mechanism cable to the DBV cable.
- Connect the Castles DEX plug to unit’s DEX port.
- Reinstall the DBV stacker.
- Install zip ties on the following zip tie mount locations to hold the excess cables in place:
- Attach the antenna and DBV power cables to the mount found on the bottom of the service door
- Attach the Com1/DEX cable to the mount found at the top of the service door
- Attach the antenna cable to the mount on the right side of the service cabinet
- Attach the Castles NPC4 assembly and MDB cable to the mount on the side of the DBV
- Attach the antenna and DBV power cables to the mount found on the bottom of the service door
Sending a Service DEX (aka, "Dexing")
Once physical installation is complete, a Service Dex is required to complete all the system updates and association between the card reader of the unit.
- Use the "secret knock" on the device: tap the upper corners of the screen in the order of left, right, left, right.
- The device will beep at least once, then it will display the Status screen. This screen displays useful information on the hardware and software installed, and in the case of potential running of diagnostics.
- Tap the upper right corner of the display. The word Pull will appear where you tapped. Tap this Pull button.
- Wait for the confirmation that the DEX was performed, indicated by the Succeeded message
- Wait for the Upload message, followed by the message Succeeded again.
