Purpose
This article explains some of the maintenance processes for the HL-L6400DW Brother printer. This printer is used on some Lightspeed devices.
Maintenance Processes
Replace Drum
- Make sure the machine is turned on, and open the front cover
- Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly from the machine
- Push down on the *Green* lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit
- Unpack the new drum unit. Put the toner cartridge firmly into the new drum unit until you hear it click into place. Make sure you put the toner cartridge in correctly, or it may separate from the drum unit.
- Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from left to right several times. Be sure to return the tab to the Home position, as indicated by the arrow. The arrow on the tab must be aligned with the arrow on the drum unit. If it is not, printed pages may have a vertical stripe.
- Install the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly back into the machine
- Close the front cover
Reset Drum Counter
After replacing the drum:
- Close the front cover
- Make sure the machine is turned on
- Press Settings (indicated by the wrench and screwdriver icon)> Machine Information > Parts Life
- Press and hold Drum Life
- Press Yes
- Press the Home button on the machine
The drum counter will be reset and no error code regarding the drum will be on the machine.
