Parlevel - AP Machine Reports Zero Selections
Updated

Purpose

If an AP machine's DEX file reports zero selections, the issue is typically a communication setting. The machine is likely configured to report by manual product codes rather than by individual selections. This guide outlines the process for setting the product code to Auto to resolve this.

Note: Menu and button layouts may vary by AP model (e.g., 120, 6000, 7600). Always consult the specific machine's manual for precise instructions.

Process

The below process outlines how to set the AP vending machine product codes to Auto to resolve the issue of the selections not coming through.

  1. Enter Service Mode: Open the machine door. The control board will enter service mode automatically. Press the service switch if the machine has one.

  2. Navigate to the Main Menu: Use the navigation keys (up/down arrows) on the display to access the main menu.

  3. Access Settings: Find the menu option for "Set-Up," "Configuration," or "DEX/UCS."

  4. Locate the Product Code Setting: Within the setup menu, find the setting that controls product code handling. This setting will have two options:

Manual: The machine reports sales based on a product code assigned to each selection. If no code is assigned, sales are not reported.

Auto: The machine reports sales based on the physical selection number (e.g., A1, B2). This is the desired setting.

  5. Change the Setting to Auto: Use the navigation keys to switch the setting from "Manual" to "Auto."

  6. Save and Exit: Select "Save" or "Enter" to apply your changes, then exit the menu.

  7. Verify Configuration: Close the machine door to return to sales mode. Vend several items from different selections. Pull a new DEX file to confirm that vends are now reported by their selection number.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • No Auto Option: If your machine does not have an "Auto" setting, you may need to clear existing product codes for each selection. This action forces the machine to default to reporting by selection number.

  • DEX Harness Malfunction: A damaged or loose DEX harness (the cable connecting the machine to the DEX reader) can also cause communication failures. Inspect the cable for any signs of damage or loose connections.

  • Control Board Failure: While rare, a faulty control board could be the cause. Rule out all other possibilities before assuming a board-level issue.

AP snack machines have a setting in the menus for “Product Codes” that needs to be set to “Auto” before selections are sent over in DEX. You can navigate to this setting using the attached image.
