  7. If the details are correct, select Close and proceed to update the PC.

Update the PC

  1. Reboot the PC and tap the F12 key repeatedly as it starts up to access the boot menu. A different key combination could be required for PCs not manufactured by Dell.
  2. Confirm that boot mode is set to UEFI:
    • Here, the boot mode is set correctly:

    • In this picture, the boot mode is not set correctly. Choose Bios Setup and set the boot mode to UEFI prior to proceeding. For more information, see the troubleshooting steps for No Boot Device Found below.

  3. Under the UEFI Boot section, there should be a USB drive detected. Use the keyboard to select this option and press enter to continue. If the drive is not detected or is shown under Legacy boot options, the BIOS setting will need to be changed.

  4. The Windows setup process will begin. This will take between 5 and 20 minutes depending on what USB drive, PC specifications, and USB port are being used.
  5. After the initial setup is completed, the desktop will load. An automatic configuration script will run, as shown below.
    image013.png
  6. The script will attempt to find the backed-up kiosk data and prompt for confirmation that the data is correct. Select Migrate Kiosk Data if it is accurate.

  7. It may take several minutes to completely migrate the data

  10. The kiosk will now restart. After the kiosk restarts, it will log in as KioskUser and start the market application.

Quality Assurance Steps

  1. Test the screen calibration. If the pointer does not follow where the screen is touched, it should be recalibrated. Use the appropriate shortcut to launch the calibration app for the touch screen.
    image023.png
  2. Confirm the screen is oriented correctly. If it is sideways, right-click anywhere on the desktop and choose Display Settings, then set the display orientation to Portrait or Portrait (flipped) as needed

  3. Confirm the Market App starts up after the first reboot. It might take several minutes to launch, but it will open without any interaction. If the app does not open, see the troubleshooting steps for The kiosk app did not launch after the first reboot.
  4. Scan a product, and purchase the product with a credit card.
  5. Reload a market card with cash.

Finalize Update

After the OS is updated, the new COA (certificate of authenticity) sticker needs to be affixed to an accessible portion of the PC chassis.  The recommended placement is next to the Dell service tag or another manufacturer serial number if possible

Troubleshooting

BIOS Settings

Older PCs may be set to use Legacy Boot rather than modern UEFI.  It may be necessary to enable UEFI prior to booting off of the USB.

No Boot Device Found

After booting off of the USB drive and installing windows, the second boot gives the following error: No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine.

The BIOS settings allowed booting off of the USB, but the boot list options are only set to Legacy. To fix the issue, change the boot list option to UEFI.

Migration Utility Window Doesn’t Open

The migration utility window might have lost focus or been hidden behind another window. Click the blue Powershell icon in the taskbar to find it.

The kiosk app did not launch after the first reboot

Manually open the kiosk application by double-clicking on the Avanti icon on the desktop. After confirming that the market app opens, reboot the kiosk. The market app will load on the second login of the KioskUser.
