MM6 Mini - "Unexpected Inconsistency" Error
Updated

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to outline steps to fix a particular FSCK error, which can appear on some V5 Kiosks running a Linux operating system. Depending on which version of the error the operator is receiving, they may scan one of two different scan codes with the bar code scanner to fix the error.

For the Gen3 version of this fix, please see the article Gen 3 - "Unexpected Inconsistency" Error.

Process

  1. Confirm the Kiosk terminal is failing to boot and displaying the following error: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.

  2. Take note of the root file system of the error. It should end in /dev/mmcblk0p1 or in /dev/mmcblk0p2. In the example below, the code /dev/mmcblk0p2 is outlined with a small blue circle.

    • If the root file system ends in /dev/mmcblk0p1, scan the following barcode:

    • If the root file system ends in /dev/mmcblk0p2, scan the following barcode:

  3. After scanning, wait 1–5 minutes

  4. Once the fixes are complete, restart the kiosk. The kiosk should start normally.

  5. The kiosk may boot a screen where you can select a boot device. This should default to the current Ubuntu version and auto-proceed with time.
