- Power Drill
- 1/2" Drill Bit
- Card Reader Spacer (highly recommended as a purchase with each unit)
- 7/8" Drill Bit
- 5/32" Drill Bit (only if machine does not have knockout plate)
- 11/32" Nut Driver (only if machine has knockout plate)
- Silver sharpie (optional, for convenience)
Vending Installation (No Knock-Out Plate)
- Power off the vending machine.
- Identify the length of the antenna cable and how it will reach the reader.
- Using the Pay Plus drill template and silver sharpie (if desired), mark and drill the four small holes (5/32") and the center hole for the cables (2.5"). Please note that if you do not make the center hole large enough, the cables may not sit flush at the end and they could fray or crimp over time.
- Locate the drill point for mounting the cellular antenna. Depending on your machine's make and model, it may be better to mount the antenna on the roof of the machine or the machine door. If mounting the antenna on the door, make sure the antenna/wire doesn't interfere with the closing of the door or its wires.
- Use the 1/8" to 1/2" step bit to drill the hole for the cellular antenna.
- Take the bronze connector piece for the antenna and feed it through the hole into the vending machine, until the antenna sits flush against the machine.
- Take the antenna fastening bolt and screw it on the threaded base of the cellular antenna clockwise to secure the antenna in place.
- Feed the MDB cable through the 2.5" hole. The connected cables will go to your bill validator and the coin mech.
- Feed the cellular antenna cable and DEX cable through the same hole.
- Feed the antenna wire through the plastic spacer to the reader, and screw the bronze connector piece to the GSM port on the Pay Plus Bezel. You may find it easier to hold the wire and rotate the reader to screw on.
NOTE: Please ensure the bronze piece is facing UP as shown in the picture so that it will fit in the central hole on the machine.
- Insert the MDB cable into the MDB port on the reader and then the DEX cable into the port labeled COM1. Ensure the reader is seated in the plastic spacer, shown below.
- Feed the slack cable through the central hole and align the reader and spacer with the four drill holes. Make sure the unit is flush against the machine and no wires are crimped.
- Use the four 30mm screws that come with the spacer to mount the reader to the machine, from the inside of the machine, through the spacer, and into the Pay Plus bezel.
- The result should appear as in the images below. If you did not drill the central hole wide enough for all 3 wires, then you may need to disassemble the unit and carve the hole wider in order to accommodate it.
Vending Installation (With Knock-Out Plate)
- Place flange plate on Pay Plus bezel. Make sure the inner four holes on the plate line up with the holes on the bezel.
- Take the 6mm screws and screw all four through the flange plate into the bezel.
- Feed the antenna wire to the reader, and screw the bronze connector piece to the GSM port on the Pay Plus Bezel. You may find it easier to hold the wire and rotate the reader to screw on.
NOTE: Please ensure the bronze piece is facing UP as shown in the picture.
- Align the bezel holes with the knock out plate holes on your vending machine.
- Use a 11/32" nut driver and fasten the four screens, as seen below.
- Insert the MDB cable into the MDB port on the Pay Plus bezel. Attach the other ends to your bill validator and coin mech.
- Insert the DEX cable into the COM1 port on the Pay Plus bezel, and connect the other end to the DEX port on your vending machine control board/harness.
- The finished result should appear as below (from the inside of the machine).
Sending a Service DEX (aka, "Dexing")
Once physical installation is complete, a Service Dex is required to complete all the system updates and association between the card reader of the unit.
- Use the "secret knock" on the device: tap the upper corners of the screen in the order of left, right, left, right.
- The device will beep at least once, then it will display the Status screen. This screen displays useful information on the hardware and software installed, and in the case of potential running of diagnostics.
- Tap the upper right corner of the display. The word Pull will appear where you tapped. Tap this Pull button.
- Wait for the confirmation that the DEX was performed, indicated by the Succeeded message
- Wait for the Upload message, followed by the message Succeeded again.

Using Ethernet
Pay Plus ships configured for cellular network usage via the internal SIM card. A Support ticket is required to enable ethernet communication (click here to submit a help center ticket). If you plan to use ethernet, please note that the device will still need to connect to the cellular network at least
once in order to receive the back-end setting change that is sent by Support. To ensure a smooth set-up experience, we recommend pre-configuring the device at a location with strong cellular signal.
Support Tip: Before connecting ethernet, ensure your Pay Plus device has passed the CTMS Check at least once. See the Perform the CTMS Check section below.
